UWV is the Dutch organization that provides social security and employment services to millions of clients and companies. As such, it naturally becomes a target for cyberattacks from those who aim to steal data or disrupt the key processes. With billions of log events processed every day and over 60,000 endpoints to manage, working at UWV’s Cyber Defence Center (CDC) means operating at the highest level of cybersecurity.
Security, however, doesn’t stop at detection and response. To be truly resilient, it’s essential to shift left—acting closer to the source and earlier in the process. That’s why the CDC was formed out of UWV’s Security Operations Center: an organization designed not only to fight incidents but also to prevent vulnerabilities before they can be exploited. Within the CDC, multiple disciplines collaborate closely, from vulnerability management and detection engineering to security testing.
In this talk, Nicholas Fredriksz, Manager Security Testing, will share how the CDC was founded, how it has evolved, and what daily operations look like inside UWV’s Cyber Defence Center.
Every KINTalk is a valuable moment where academics and practitioners meet, great opportunity to connect with others and build professional relationships. The talk will conclude with a networking session — a chance to exchange ideas, share experiences, and explore potential collaborations over drinks and snacks.
