On February 28, 2025, researchers and professionals interested in digital transformation and networking gathered for a KINTalk featuring Helmut Draxler, Vice President of Information Technology (CIO) at INNIO Group.
Helmut opened his presentation with a fundamental question: Why? What drives businesses to embrace digital innovation? He explored value creation along the product lifecycle and customer value chain, emphasizing increased availability through monitoring and predictive services, as well as adapting to labor market shifts with virtual, remote, and data-driven services.
To illustrate, he presented the Industrial Metaverse developed for Burckhardt Compression, a manufacturer that supplies massive gas compressors to the marine industry. Dispatching service engineers was costly and time-consuming with ships often in remote locations. The introduction of Remote Assist enabled engineers to collaborate with onboard technicians in real time, providing specialized expertise without the need for travel. This digitalization reduced costs, minimized the carbon footprint, and improved efficiency.
Helmut then explained how Remote Assist evolved into a fully integrated Digital Metaverse, eliminating discontinuities and enabling deeper vertical integration. He also outlined various models for digital product portfolios, covering different digital offerings and monetization strategies. Concluding his talk, he left us with an inspiring message: Think big: there is much more possible than we often imagine.
The KINTalk included a lively Q&A and networking session, where participants exchanged ideas, shared experiences, and explored potential collaborations over drinks and snacks.
