KINTalk: How can AI enhance the coding experience?

Share
9 October 2024
Experts from the field, Bruno Passos and Matt Sexton, discussed how AI can enhance the software development process. They demonstrated the AI coding assistants in use, talked about early insights from this initiative, and shared best practices for integrating AI to improve the developers' experience.

On October 4th, 2024 researchers, students, and professionals interested in the latest advancements in AI for software development, innovative applications of AI in industry, and networking gathered for a KINTalk featuring Bruno Passos, a Group Product Manager driving the Developer Experience at Booking.com, and Matt Sexton, a Principal Engineer at Booking.com.

Bruno kicked off the presentation by laying out the developing process at Booking.com. He then delved into how AI is being integrated into the software development experience. The company has been experimenting with generative AI for less than a year, aiming to provide developers with a fast, safe, and user-friendly pathway from code to production.

Matt followed up with an engaging demonstration of Cody, an AI coding assistant. He showcased how Cody helps new developers understand code and can translate between programming languages. While Cody isn’t poised to “take the jobs” of developers, it’s successfully smoothing out the development process, allowing engineers to focus on building solid customer experiences.

The KINTalk concluded with an active Q&A session. Speakers and the audience discussed how generative AI is driving changes and considered new capabilities as well as critical questions. With new technologies constantly being added, AI models are evolving faster than ever.

The Q&A flowed into a networking session, where participants exchanged ideas over drinks and snacks. This provided an excellent opportunity for further discussions and connections among researchers, students, and industry professionals.
