VU uses various cloud platforms for secure and efficient data storage

Share
7 March 2025
As of July 1, 2025, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam will replace the SURFDrive service with various (cloud) platforms. All other existing SURF services provided to the VU will remain unchanged.

The VU utilizes various (cloud) platforms for data storage, including both autonomous in-house solutions and external cloud solutions, such as SAP centers and Microsoft data centers in Western Europe. It has been decided to migrate the data currently stored via SURFdrive to other existing platforms. All research data is stored on VU's autonomous platforms.

The choice of where to store specific information is made through a careful assessment, considering security, compliance, and efficiency. Where necessary, additional measures are taken to ensure the protection and reliability of the data.
