Share
4 July 2025
Professionals from a wide range of organizations came together at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam to deepen their understanding of data analytics, machine learning, and AI. As part of the part-time Executive Education programme in Business Analytics & Data Science, they explored how to turn data into insights—and insights into action.

On the concluding day of the part-time Business Analytics & Data Science Executive Education programme, participants presented their final pitches to an esteemed academic jury. The panel included Sandjai Bhulai, Professor of Business Analytics; Andre Lucas, Professor of Econometrics and Data Science; and Frans Feldberg, Professor poof Data-Driven Business Innovation—all renowned experts at the intersection of data and decision-making.

After a year of hands-on learning, participants showed how data, analytics, machine learning, and AI can be used to solve real-world challenges. Each group worked on a project grounded in their own organization, translating analytical insights into practical strategies with clear potential for impact:

  • Real Estate: AI-powered financial planning to optimize property portfolios
  • Aviation: Enhancing ground staff scheduling through Mixed Integer Programming
  • Energy Grid: Using a Power Grid Model to assess customer connection capacity and reduce congestion
  • Water Authority: Identifying the key drivers of electricity use in wastewater treatment for smarter energy management

Congratulations to all participants, and sincere thanks to the organizing team and the dedicated instructors who made this experience possible.
