Welcome to a new chapter for ACMRL! Our website has integrated into VU Amsterdam’s digital space, and we proudly introduce our new logo, designed by former PhD researcher Tamara Last.
As many of you may have already noticed, the ACMRL website has now merged into the online environment of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In tandem with this exciting update, we are proud to unveil our new logo—a fresh visual identity reflecting our commitment to academic engagement in migration and refugee law. The logo was designed by former PhD researcher, Tamara Last, in a creative collaborative process with researchers and professors of the Centre.
Tamara describes the ACMRL logo as follows: “Abstracted fists of resistance push the limitations of the square that houses the group. There are five fists, representing the letters of the acronym ACMRL and the inhabited continents of the world: Africa, America, Asia, Europe, Oceania. The square is blue and represents, among others, the University (VU Amsterdam), the Law and its enforcement, the EU, the status quo. This is the structural home of the Amsterdam Centre for Migration and Refugee Law, within which engaged legal scholars conduct autonomous research and teach students and practitioners in the field of migration law, interpreting and challenging the status quo and engaging with worlds beyond academia. The abstracted fists of resistance represent academic engagement with the rights of people who migrate, pushing structural boundaries in different directions and to varying degrees. The group is depicted in purple, evoking creativity, power and wisdom.”
