26 October 2023
Loreta Angela Muscarella has awarded 'honorable mention’ for the Prestigious Christiaan Huygens Science Award, an annual honor presented by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) to recognize exceptional achievements in the world of science. Muscarella has been selected as one of the three nominees for the prize, whereas the first prize has been awarded to Dr. Nico Hendrickx.

Her dissertation, titled 'Strain Effects on the Optical Properties of Lead-Halide Perovskites', was defended in January 2022, at the University of Groningen. The jury lauded her work for the innovative range of experimental techniques applied to metal halide perovskites and the demonstration of the importance of stress in this class of materials. The support of esteemed organizations such as ASML, and TNO has played a pivotal role in fostering and honoring scientific excellence within the community.

The jury was chaired by the eminent Maria Antonietta Loi, professor of photo physics and optoelectronics at the University of Groningen. And included distinguished members Daniel Bonn, professor of complex fluids at the University of Amsterdam, and Kobus Kuipers, professor of nanophotonic structures at Delft University of Technology.

Loreta Angela Muscarella will also join the Physics and Astronomy department on January 1, 2024.
