On Thursday, 20 November, Meredith Whittaker, president of the Signal Foundation, will speak with the VU Amsterdam community. People from outside the university who are interested are also very welcome.
Meredith Whittaker is a global advocate for privacy and digital rights. She spent over ten years at Google, co-founded the AI Now Institute, and has advised governments on AI and technology policy. For her, privacy ultimately revolves around power: who has access to our data and who sets the rules? This involves much more than just our personal information. It’s a hot topic that ties in perfectly with VU Amsterdam’s annual theme: Free Thinkers.

During this event, we will gain insight into Meredith Whittaker as a person and the experiences that have shaped her journey to becoming the president of the Signal Foundation. We will discuss topics such as power, technology, AI, privacy, security, the role of science, and responsibility, with Free Thinkers as the central theme.
