The ACMRL is pleased to announce that the 12th edition of the Sarah van Walsum Lecture will be held by Saskia Bonjour (Associate Professor of Political Science, University of Amsterdam), titled: "Migration lawyers as normative political actors in the family migration regime."
One of the key arenas where what counts as “family” for migration control purposes is contested is the courts, and the key actors who do so are lawyers. Saskia argues that lawyers should be conceptualized as political actors who play a crucial but ambiguous role in migration regimes, confirming and contesting legal and social norms.
Saskia is Director of the Amsterdam Research Center for Migration (ARC-M) and founding Editorial Fellow of the journal Migration Politics. She is also a member of the board of the Amsterdam Research Center on Gender and Sexuality (ARC-GS).
Special attention for ACMRL alumni: this event is organised as an alumni event of the law faculty. We are looking forward to use this opportunity to reunite!
The Sarah van Walsum Lecture is held annually in honour of the late Prof. Sarah van Walsum and opens the Master's in International Migration and Refugee Law at VU Amsterdam. Here is more information.
