Lung cancer treatment is becoming increasingly complex. New forms of immunotherapy, targeted agents, and radiation are increasingly being combined. Professor of Multidisciplinary Thoracic Oncology Idris Bahce is investigating how such multimodal therapies can enhance each other and for which patients this combination truly works. Molecular imaging plays a supporting role in this process: PET scans help us better understand how tumors and immune cells respond to treatment.
Bahce collaborates with a broad network of disciplines, from pulmonologists to radiation therapists, lung surgeons, nuclear medicine physicians, and pathologists, on studies in which treatment and imaging go hand in hand. In his inaugural lecture, he will demonstrate how close collaboration between disciplines can lead to better, more personalized care for people with lung cancer.
