Emotional release and openness to new experiences: Give yourself permission to slow down and simply be. In this guided Yoga Nidra session, we’ll bring body and mind into deep rest while making space to release what no longer serves us and open ourselves to new experiences. A moment to pause, reset and enter the new academic year with a fresh perspective.
Yoga Nidra, sometimes called ‘yogic sleep’, is a guided meditation designed to help you deeply relax and enter a state of deep relaxation. You don’t need any previous experience with yoga or meditation. You simply lie down comfortably, close your eyes, and let yourself be guided through breathing, awareness, and visualisation.
Starting a new academic year can feel exciting, but it can also mean heavy new expectations, deadlines, and uncertainty about what’s ahead. This session focuses on emotional release and creating emotional openness for new experiences. Rather than trying to analyse or solve everything that’s on your mind, we’ll simply create some space to acknowledge what you may be carrying and gently let some of it go. From there, we can turn our attention towards the new experiences, opportunities, and challenges that the academic year may bring.
The session is led by a Yoga Alliance-certified yoga teacher who is also a VU master’s student. I completed my yoga teacher training in Rishikesh, India, where I spent several months living and studying in a traditional yoga environment. I’m excited to bring some of that experience to the VU community, combining the traditional foundations of yoga with a modern, accessible, and open approach.
Everyone is welcome, whether you’ve tried meditation before or this is completely new to you. There’s nothing you need to be good at and nothing you need to prepare for. Just come as you are, get comfortable, and give yourself some time to pause, breathe, let go, and make space for what comes next.
