Do you want to make your education societally engaged, or are you already doing so and want to take it further? Then this session is for you!
To start the academic year off well, we are bringing together a growing network of educators at VU who share a commitment to meaningful, societally engaged teaching on 8 September 12:00 - 13:00. "CSL presents: A Broader Mind in Practice" is designed not just as a learning session, but as a space where colleagues can find each other, see who else is working on this, and keep lines short.
Together we explore how Community Service Learning can help make your course truly A Broader Mind-proof. We will go beyond the surface to look at what it actually takes to design education that is transformative for students. That means grappling with real questions: How do you embed reciprocity? How do you create the kind of learning experience that genuinely challenges students to see themselves in relation to society?
The session includes expert perspectives from colleagues at VU who are already doing this work. One of our speakers is Marijke Visser, who is finalising her thesis on topics such as reciprocity and community involvement.
You will leave with:
- New insights on what makes community partnerships genuinely transformative for students
- New connections with colleagues across VU who share the same ambition. We will actively map overlapping themes in the room and make space to exchange contact details
- A clearer sense of where your own course stands, and what questions are worth sitting with
