Now, both the LAW Platform and the editorial board of Law & Method are organizing a follow-up study afternoon, this time focusing on generative AI in education and assessment. We aim to go beyond initial exploration. Much experimentation has already taken place with the use of generative AI in legal education and assessment. It is becoming increasingly clear what is possible—and how this challenges the validity of current assessment practices. This raises fundamental discussions: about learning objectives, potential changes to them, and how we as universities can and should respond.
We want to discuss three topics:
- Learning objectives and educational vision: What are we educating academic lawyers for? What should they learn and be able to do?
- Materials and methods: What should law programs offer students? What experiments with teaching and assessment methods have already taken place, and what have we learned from them?
- Reflection on and experimentation with assessment: What steps must we take to assess effectively? What role do guidelines play in this?
During the study afternoon, there will be parallel sessions. Would you like to contribute? Please send a short abstract (max. 300 words to m.c.m.geuskens@vu.nl until Friday 14 November 2025.
If you would like to attend, please register via this form. We look forward to your contribution and to welcoming you on the day!
