SUMMARY:Generative AI, Education and Assessment
X-ALT-DESC;FMTTYPE=text/html:

Since November 2022, wi
th the launch of ChatGPT, the impact of generative AI on (higher) edu
cation has grown rapidly. On 6 June 2024, the LAW Platform (Edusource
s) organized a study afternoon at VU Amsterdam focused on exploring w
hat generative AI is and its implications for education.

Now,
both the LAW Platform and the editorial board of Law & Method are
organizing a follow-up study afternoon, this time focusing on genera
tive AI in education and assessment. We aim to go beyond initial expl
oration. Much experimentation has already taken place with the use of
generative AI in legal education and assessment. It is becoming incr
easingly clear what is possible - and how this challenges the validit
y of current assessment practices. This raises fundamental discussion
s: about learning objectives, potential changes to them, and how we a
s universities can and should respond.

We want to discuss three
 topics:

Learning objectives: Fundamental questions rais
ed by GenAI, particularly regarding writingskills and independent cri
tical thinking

Methods: How GenAI can be used and how we ca
n teach critical thinking

Asessment: Reflection on the rule
s and guidelines concerning assessment and its design(especially rubr
ics) given the existence of GenAI.

During the day, you ar
