Quality Health Safety & Enviroment (QHSE) and housing team

Last updated on 28 November 2025
The QHSE and accommodation team supports faculty management, departments and programmes. Together, we work to create a safe healthy working environment that complies with laws and regulations.

We identify challenges and bottlenecks and are available for all kinds of practical questions. In addition, we are the connecting link in collaborations within and outside the faculty. We strive for accessibility and transparency.

Team consists of 2 domains led by department head Paul Goossens:

  • QHSE
  • Housing

On the general VU campus information page you will find most of the information for co-workers on housing, which can be found here.

    The New University Building

The New University Building, together with the O|2 Lab Building and the yet-to-be-constructed Schoolwork Gardens Building, is the replacement new building for the W&N Building.

The building is a stepped building that is seven floors high on the campus side and 12 floors high on Boelelaan.

    Facts about the NU building:

    • 2 million kilograms of steel and 11,794 m3 of concrete were used in the construction of the shell building
    • Over 5 km of fibre-optic cable was pulled for the main data infrastructure
    • 348 wifi access points have been installed
    • A number of internal walls are made of metal and can therefore be used as magnetic boards
    • The bicycle basement will be completed in the first quarter of 2020. Charging points for e-bikes for employees will be constructed and charging points will be installed in the public area. The NU building is the first VU building where students can also park their bikes underground and under cover
