Damage to personal property

Last updated on 22 September 2021
If you suffered damage to personal property used in the performance of your job, please submit your claim to the Corporate Finance department of the Finance service department. Please also inform the head of department of your faculty or service department.

The Corporate Finance department assesses the damage and keeps you updated on the handling process by email. Processing your claim does not mean VU Amsterdam is liable, but that VU Amsterdam will conduct an investigation. VU Amsterdam cannot be held liable for damages that result from intent or recklessness.

Report damages within 2 weeks

You are requested to report the damage within 2 weeks of the incident or event using the following information:

  • name, VUnet ID, address and telephone numbers
  • a detailed description of the damage
  • photos of the damage
  • location and date of the incident/event
  • the scope of the damages (include bills or invoices)
  • signed witness statements

Email all relevant information and documents to the Corporate Finance department: schade.fpc@vu.nl

Damage to VU Amsterdam properties or to properties belonging to third parties

You may also accidentally cause damage to VU Amsterdam property or properties belonging to third parties in the performance of your duties. VU Amsterdam may be liable for the reimbursement of these damages. In that case you will only be liable in the event the damage caused was intentional or due to intentional recklessness. When VU Amsterdam is able to prove this and deems you responsible, VU Amsterdam will ask you to pay for all the damages.
