Apply for the group disability insurance scheme

Last updated on 30 August 2024
You can insure yourself against the risk of reduced income due to occupational disability and against unemployment deriving from such disability by participating in the group disability insurance scheme.

For this purpose, a tax-advantaged disability insurance (AOV) is available from Loyalis, with which Vrije Universiteit has entered into a group disability insurance scheme. You can choose from 3 coverages:

  • partial disability coverage (0-35% or 35-80%)
  • total disability coverage (80-100%)
  • partial and total disability coverage.

Illness or an accident can happen to anyone, but it can have a considerable impact on your personal situation and income. Benefits from the government (WIA) and the ABP pension fund are often temporary and insufficient. Together with Loyalis, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam therefore put together a group disability insurance scheme that supplements the WIA, the agreements from the CAO NU and your disability pension. This way, you only insure what is really necessary, keeping your premium low. And more importantly: it prevents your income from dropping to social security level, which is a realistic scenario, especially in case of partial disability.

With this income supplement, you always retain at least 70% of your income and continue to build up (part of) your pension, even if you are unfit for work. The group disability insurance scheme with Loyalis gives you at least a 20% premium discount.

At www.loyalis.nl you can find all the information, calculate the premium and apply for the insurance online.

Conditions

To apply, you must meet a number of conditions:

  • You are registered with the ABP and
  • You are not socially insured outside the Netherlands (this is the case if you are obliged to take out health insurance in the Netherlands).

Advantages of participation

  • Benefit: a supplement to at least 70% of your former income
  • Flexible: a benefit up to your own state pension age
  • Easy: an automatic premium deduction via your gross salary, giving you a tax advantage
  • Low premium: at least 20% premium discount

Taking out the insurance

Participation is voluntary. You apply for this insurance yourself directly at Loyalis. The employer number (connection number) with ABP is 5700. Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam deducts the premium for the group disability insurance scheme from your salary each month for the duration of the insurance.

If you apply within six months after your employment at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Loyalis will accept you without any medical questions. If you are employed for more than six months, an extensive health declaration is part of the acceptance process.

Upon termination of your employment, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam notifies Loyalis and the premium deduction from your salary ends. You have to cancel the insurance policy with Loyalis yourself. If you wish to continue the insurance on an individual basis, please contact Loyalis.
