That is why the assessment framework “Risks related to armed conflicts and human rights in international collaborations” has been developed: to raise awareness among staff of these risks, and to support them in making a well-considered and responsible decision about whether or not to collaborate with a particular organisation, funder or individual.
The framework provides a structured approach to assessing international collaborations. Does the collaboration align with the core values of VU Amsterdam? Is there sufficient academic freedom? Are there potential risks concerning human rights or contributions to armed conflict? The framework helps researchers, faculties and university leadership to weigh these questions carefully. An advisory committee will support them in doing so.
The framework has been developed based on practical experiences during a pilot phase, an evaluation by the Advisory Committee, input from the university community, and insights from other academic institutions.
