The VU PhD Council is looking for new board members

Last updated on 7 May 2024
The VU PhD council was established with the goal of representing and advocating for the interests of all VU PhD candidates. It aims to enhance the social and professional interplay among VU PhD candidates during their PhD trajectory while also addressing organizational developments that impact VU PhDs.

As a PhD council, we aspire to bring relevant information to VU PhDs, with a special emphasis on the subjects within our three portfolios: 1) mental health and wellbeing, 2) PhD rights, and 3) diversity and inclusion. To learn more about the portfolios, please see our webpage. The council consists of three board members and 9 general members: we aim to have representation across each faculty/graduate school within the group.

For the upcoming academic year (2023/2024), we are looking for new board members. See below for a description of the board member roles, compensation details, and information about how to apply for a position.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Board members are expected to prepare and attend meetings at different organizational levels at the VU relevant to PhD policy (e.g., VU consultative meeting for research, Network of Graduate Schools and the Rector Magnificus) as well as PNN (Promovendi Netwerk Nederland) meetings at the national level. These meetings can be divided over the board members as they see fit. Furthermore, each board member oversees one of the aforementioned portfolios and contributes to workshop organization.
