Adjustment

On this page, in addition to all VU-wide information on the adjustment, you will also find specific information relating to all faculties and services. The measures differ per unit in terms of content and timing. The page is therefore continuously adapted, supplemented and updated.

In order to remain financially sound, adjustments of about €60 million are needed in the period 2025-2028. The broad Core Group of Adjustment has developed an approach for this. The measures have a central line with decentralised implementation, focusing on increasing benefits and reducing costs.

The situation of each faculty and department is different, so the deployment of measures also differs. It is up to the faculty board and departmental management to flesh this out. VU-wide consultation on this takes place within various bodies. The VU annual plan and the VU long-term budget 2025-2029 provide the overall picture for the entire university.

Further explanation of the financial target

Fulfilling the adjustment task 2025-2028 for a long period of time requires an effort and hence commitment from the organisation. This involves looking at making strategic choices.

The following applies:

  • making choices from the content: what do we do and what don't we do?
  • VU strategy is leading;
  • 'new' for 'old': for every new task or activity, ask the question: what will we stop doing?
  • taking VUture into account.

It is up to the units to make (strategic) choices for measures. Frameworks have been laid down to increase the income of VU Amsterdam and the faculties and reduce the burden at faculties and services. These measures relate to education, research, as well as operations. Apart from making their own strategic choices for measures, departments will have to move with the faculties in order to adapt their services to the new reality. This requires joint coordination with the faculties, thorough planning and set-up, which is valid for a longer period of time and moves with developments.
