As there is no specific content discussed, this is mostly a ‘learning how to learn’ course. A course in which teachers will learn a method they can apply themselves in the future to continue develop themselves, outside formal faculty development initiatives. Participants will learn how to formulate a personal learning objective, search relevant educational research, transform findings into actionable interventions, collect and analyze data (feedback). There is no assessment in the end.
There is one specific entry requirement. Since you will design, implement, and evaluate a teaching activity, you should be teaching during the course. Without an opportunity to practice and experience the impact of your activity, the course will have less value.
No formal exam or other assessment involved. If desired, a certificate of participation, including the course load and content, can be provided.
The teacher is Jan Willem Grijpma. He has done a PhD on optimizing student engagement in small-group active learning. His approach to this course is one of congruency: where you learn to become a scholarly teacher, he has designed the course with a strong scientific foundation combined with practical assignments.
