Immigration application for Semester in Amsterdam students

Incoming students at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam who are a citizen of a non-EU country and who don't possess a Dutch residence permit yet, will need to complete the immigration procedure before starting their studies at VU Amsterdam. The student immigration department at VU Amsterdam will apply for a residence permit for study on student's behalf.

On this page exchange students will find all the information they need in order to complete the immigration process. Therefore, students should review this page carefully for it contains very important information.

There are several types of immigration procedures possible for Semester in Amsterdam students:

  • Residence permit (VVR) procedure

  • Change of sponsor
  • Working Holiday Programme/Scheme (WHP/WHS) (available to citizens from specific countries*)
  • Intra-EU mobility (for students who already hold a valid EU permit for study of another member state)
