Marketplace for educational excursions

On this VU Marketplace you can list your own educational excursions and sign up for those of VU colleagues. Join initiatives including teaching with VR, innovative assessment and inclusive education. All excursions take place at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Going on an educational excursion to one of your VU colleagues gives you the opportunity to gain new insights and get inspired. It's a fun, easy activity for you and your colleagues, and it connects you with the many faces of education at VU.

Hosting an educational excursion gives you the opportunity to share the teaching practice you are proud of with your peers. The participation of peers in your excursion can also provide valuable new insights. This way you contribute to a strong educational community and give your teaching practice the exposure it deserves.

How does it work?

    Title

    Description

R.M. Hartog Succesfull and efficient thesis supervisionIn the Bachelor's program in Communication Science, students often work in teams during project-based courses. Teamwork can lead to challenges that require more time and guidance than currently feasible for instructors. Therefore, we developed our own AI avatar that allows students to practice giving peer-to-peer feedback on collaboration.
    G. Buijtenweg Virtual Reality and collaborative learning in anatomy coursesIn the Bachelor's program in Human Movement Sciences, students study the musculoskeletal system in the course Functional Anatomy using VR headsets, anatomical atlases, and specially developed assignments. Geert Buijtenweg shares his experiences with Virtual Reality, the anatomical program 3D Organon, and the organization and management of VR headsets and software.

    L. Schaap

    A. Vaes

Take the first step to Community Service Learning in your educationIn the Bachelor's program in Health Sciences, students engage with elderly people in Amsterdam during the course "Geriatrics and Aging." The course uses Community Service Learning (CSL), a form of education that connects students with societal stakeholders. Laura Schaap and Anouk Vaes have extensive experience with CSL and offer concrete tips and ideas to successfully implement CSL in your own teaching.
    A. Smienk How many steps does it take to enter the lecture hall? (accessibility in education)The excursion "How many steps do you need to enter the lecture hall?" invites you to explore how you can make your own teaching more accessible. By working with origami, the Japanese art of paper folding, you broaden your perspective and understanding of accessibility in education.
    D. Bakker  Drilling with Virtual RealityIn the Dentistry program, Dirk Bakker, a dentist and lecturer (Digital Dentistry section), uses Virtual Reality. During his classes, students learn to drill using a simulator on a replica of a patient’s teeth. Later, they perform the treatment on the actual patient in the clinic. This allows students to independently and at their own pace acquire the necessary skills within the specific context of the patient. During the excursion, Dirk shares his experiences, offers practical tips and advice on VR education, and lets you try drilling in the simulator at ACTA.

Want to offer an excursion?

From February 2026 there will be room for new educational excursions.

Please get in touch with Hilde Remmers. She is happy to help you think about the form and structure of the excursion.
