Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam collaborates with other universities for a number of study programmes. These collaborations allow students to benefit as much as possible from the advantages and expertise of both or more institutions. In this way, a wide range of courses can be offered at a high level.
Examples of collaborations between VU Amsterdam and other universities include Joint Degrees, course-level collaboration with the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and degree programmes at the branch office of University of Twente (VU-UT variants).
Do you want to know what the collaboration means for you? Would you like to (re)enrol or do you have other specific questions? Find out about the three types of educational collaborations at VU Amsterdam:
Joint degrees
A Joint Degree programme is a collaboration between two or more universities, in which you are enrolled at both or more institutions. You therefore take courses at two or more universities and can use all the facilities of the participating universities. Enrolment is organised by one university: the coordinating institution.
VU Amsterdam offers Joint Degree programmes in collaboration with the University of Amsterdam (UvA), the Protestant Theological University (PThU), Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) and Leiden University (LEI).
Course-level collaboration VU-UvA
Between VU Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam (UvA), in addition to Joint Degrees, there is collaboration at course level. This collaboration links individual degree programmes. There is no coordinating institution as with a Joint Degree. You can choose which university you take the study programme at.
VU-UT collaboration (programme variants)
In this collaboration between VU Amsterdam and the University of Twente (UT), the Bachelor's programmes Creative Technology (CreaTe) and Mechanical Engineering (ME) are also offered in Amsterdam, as a branch at VU Amsterdam.
