Are you facing delays in the completion of your studies?

If you are studying at VU Amsterdam and experience delays in the completion of your studies, we are there to help — no matter what the reason may be.

You can request advice and guidance from various staff members, but you should always contact your programme’s academic advisor first. If the advisor believes they are not the right person to help, they will refer you to someone else, such as a student counsellor or student psychologist.

  • Advice regarding your academic achievement
If you are worried about your academic achievement, you can make an appointment with the academic advisor for your bachelor’s programme. If you have a disability, you can request extra time during exams. If you are in the first year of your Bachelor's programme, you can also contact your academic advisor about the Binding Study Advice (BSA). In addition, your academic advisor can help you request financial assistance from the university’s Student Support Regulation if your studies are delayed.
  • Help with matters unrelated to your studies
Do you need help with financial matters? Do you have an urgent housing problem? Or would you like to make use of a regulation? Then you can request help from one of the student counsellors. They can advise you on topics that are not directly related to your studies but that may influence the progress of your studies.
  • If your studies are not progressing like they should
Have you developed psychological complaints related to your studies? Then you can call on a student psychologist. You can sign up for an intake interview online. The student psychologist can then help you with issues such as fear of failure, procrastination, negative self-image, and problems regarding your studies or graduation. The student psychologist also provides training sessions. And there are groups you can join in which you work on things such as formulating a realistic study plan or being disciplined in your studies. If you need long-term or specialised help, the student psychologist will help you find the right person and will provide you with a referral.
