When students actively participate in their learning, more meaningful connections are created between teachers, students, and the course content. However, growth in student numbers means that teachers need to be more creative in how they design and deliver their learning materials and activities. If we work together to better envision meaningful activation, we can further support students by reprioritizing active participation.
With this challenge we aimed to is to inspire students to embrace active learning. We focused on searching for optimal approaches for activated learning experiences for students and efficiencies for designing and delivering active learning for teachers In 9 weeks we gathered 27 ideas, 42 votes, and 181 comments.
Challenge Winners
- The top Idea Award Jacko Wijnen won the Top Idea Award for 'Guest lectures from practice' idea. iJacko suggests inviting VU alumni to give guest lectures. They can provide insights on how to apply lecture materials in real-world scenarios, inspiring students.

Challenge Champions are leaders who strive to improve a specific aspect of the VU community. They play a crucial role in connecting with experts who can provide valuable insights for addressing community issues and in supporting the implementation of the most promising ideas.
- CTL SBE — the goal of the Center for Teaching and Learning for School of Business and Economics is to empower and support teachers, program directors and everyone else involved in education.
- FSR SBE — The Faculty Student Council is the official participation body for about seven thousand students at the School of Business and Economics (SBE). The FSR is an important organization to raise the voice of students and make them heard by the Faculty board.
