Attempting to get beyond these crises in a fair and equitable way, requires many types of knowledge and value articulations, and governance arrangements for weighing and connecting those. Disciplinary approaches do not suffice: in trying to solve one aspect of the problem, other aspects amplify, and new, unforeseen problems emerge. Alternatives to mono- or multi-disciplinary research include transdisciplinary approaches that entwine research and (policy) action. As this is precisely Athena’s expertise, we launched a platform that shows how we approach the corona crisis from diverse angles.
COVID-19
On this page you will learn more about our specific research into responses to outbreaks of infectious diseases and crises, such as COVID-19. Athena’s researchers Aura Timen, Teun Zuiderent-Jerak, Linda van de Burgwal, Frank Kupper, Elena Syurina and Tjerk Jan Schuitmaker analyse the effects of measures on citizens, reflect on the framing of problems and solutions, and develop innovative methods to include the knowledge and experience of different groups in the development of crisis measures.
Blog and webinars
We bring perspectives together from various fields that are immediately implicated by the crisis – from health systems to global (mental) health and from agriculture and the food system to facilitating dialogues between science, policy and society – in an attempt to facilitate collective ways to unravel this global crisis using a transdisciplinary approach.
