Economic policy analysis of drug markets

Amsterdam Institute for Pharmaceutical Markets

AIPM aims to contribute to the optimization of innovation, affordability, and accessibility in pharmaceutical systems. It applies rigorous economic and institutional analysis to better understand how policies, stakeholder incentives, and market dynamics shape outcomes across the sector.

The institute’s work is grounded in the expectation that high-quality, data-driven analysis can contribute meaningfully to these goals. By generating neutral and evidence-based insights, AIPM seeks to clarify the trade-offs inherent in pharmaceutical policy and make their implications more transparent, while taking into consideration the institutional positions.

AIPM also aims to facilitate more effective communication among stakeholders with differing perspectives, such as policymakers, payers, clinicians, and industry actors. Its analyses respect the legitimate roles and interests of each group, while maintaining an independent and objective approach. By combining institutional sensitivity and rigorous economic analysis, it provides a common evidence base to support more constructive dialogue and better-informed decision-making.

AIPM positions its research as a tool to help clarify how competing interests arise within pharmaceutical systems, and how they may be better aligned to support balanced, sustainable, and equitable pharmaceutical policies.
