Work MF building March-August 2025

From March to August 2025, maintenance will be carried out on the interior and exterior facades of the 5th and 6th floors of the MF building.

Below are answers to frequently asked questions about the work.

FAQ work

  • What work will be carried out?

    • Phase 1: Painting rotating window sections on the inside of the building. This is nearing completion.
    • Phase 2: Replacing rubbers and lubricating and adjusting the windows to single tilt position from safety considerations. The duration of this work, are less than an hour.
    • Stage 3: If wood rot is detected, it will be repaired. This can be done from the inside or from the outside. The duration of this work can vary from half a day to several days.
    • Stage 4: Painting the outside of the frames and windows.
  • What does the schedule look like and will I hear when there is work in my office?

An overall schedule has been drawn up, but due to factors such as weather conditions and the order in which work can be carried out, it is not possible to fix an exact date for each room in advance. Only exceptionally, fixed dates are scheduled, for teaching space, meeting space and spaces with special equipment. For the work in phase 2, a global schedule will be shared on the website in advance.

As soon as it is clear when it is your office's turn, you will receive timely notification via the painter or an announcement on the door.

  • Why work with both aerial platforms and scaffolding?

For the outside of the building, a combination of aerial platforms and scaffolding is needed to reach all parts of the facade in a safe and efficient way. The choice depends on the location, substrate and accessibility of the windows. Aerial platforms are used flexibly, while scaffolding is needed for longer work or parts that are difficult to reach. At a later stage, suspended scaffolding is lowered from the roof.

  • Why are there stamps in the D-wing corridors?

The outriggers in the corridors of the D-wing provide support for the scaffolding on top of the roof. They ensure that the load of the scaffolding structure is properly distributed to the floors below.

  • Where can I go with complaints about noise and/or dust nuisance?

For complaints, please contact the FCO Service Desk at frontoffice.fco@vu.nl or 020 598 57 77. Please clearly state your location (floor, wing and room number) so that we can take targeted action.

  • When can I move my desk back to its original place?

These will be put back in place by the Logistics Department after the work, until then it is important that the painters and other workmen have good access to the window. Please also take this into account by not placing loose items in front of the window.

  • My blinds have been taken off on the inside, when will this be put back on?

The indoor blinds will be returned to your space after the work is completed.
