VoorUit

VoorUit is an organisation aimed at improving the social cohesion within neighbourhoods by stimulation citizen participation. Literally translated VoorUit means ahead. In Dutch “Vooruit!” is often used as an expression meaning something as “Come on, to work!” or “Go ahead”.

Students of the VU and UvA are offered free housing in exchange for doing 10 hours of social work in the neighbourhood they live. During these hours the students organize activities for the residents of the area, such as crafts clubs, soccer training or homework guidance. Besides this, every student has a contact family, a family that the students choose themselves and whom with they exchange their ways of living.

VoorUit is currently active in nine neighbourhoods in Nieuw-West, West and Noord with over 70 students.
