Various pathways to impact

Curious what your path to impact could look like? There are various options that we can explore together.

Your research can create value for science, society, industry and policy. Valorisation helps make that value visible and applicable. VU IXA-GO helps you explore these possibilities and translate them into concrete steps.

Your personal route to impact

Valorisation is not a standardised process. There is no fixed route: every researcher follows their own path, and your work may be valuable in multiple ways. Together with you, VU IXA-GO identifies which types of valorisation fit your research, goals and ambitions.

How your research can make an impact

VU IXA-GO offers extensive expertise in innovation and knowledge transfer. Our team provides strong support for your valorisation and impact initiatives. Together, we explore the best route to bring your knowledge or invention to society, whether through collaboration, licensing, or creating a spin-off or social venture.

Laura Rupp has also established the Center for Global English to increase positive impact on global English worldwide and to have more inclusive English education. Watch the video to hear more about asking for outside expertise, identifying stakeholders and personal perseverance.

How your research can make an impact

  • Training and education

Share your insights through workshops, training sessions or (post-academic) teaching. This brings cutting-edge scientific knowledge directly into practice.

  • Co-creation & societal engagement

Collaborate with organisations, citizens or other target groups on research that produces outcomes relevant to multiple stakeholders. Co-creation strengthens the connection between all involved, and with society at large.

  • Consultancy

Use your expertise to advise organisations and policymakers. In doing so, you help answer practical questions and contribute to solving real-world problems.
For example, advising a local authority on sustainability policy based on your research.

  • Collaborative research

Contribute to solutions for societal challenges through contract research or joint research projects.

  • Patents and licences

Protect your innovation and enable companies to use it responsibly. Licensing ensures your knowledge is applied in both a controlled and economically meaningful way. For example, by distributing your software through licences to technology companies.

  • Starting your own company or social enterprise

Want to continue developing your idea yourself?  Starting your own company or social enterprise can be an effective way to bring research results to the market and into society.

  • Broad knowledge sharing

Give your ideas a platform through media appearances, public-facing articles, and other forms of (online) communication. Communication is a powerful way to share your knowledge with a wider audience. Learn more about communication
