PhD candidates of the Graduate School of Social Sciences pay tuition fees according to their VSNU type and their source of funding.
The current PhD tuition fee policy is outlined in the document VU-GSSS Tuition fee and other costs to conduct PhD research.
In view of the new VU guidelines for PhD fees, this policy will be replaced by a new one shortly. In the meantime, please contact us (graduate.school.ssw@vu.nl) for more information.
The cut-off date for receiving full applications for prospective PhD admissions under the current fee system is 1 June 2026. Applications received after that date will be processed in accordance with the new fee system.
