Risk and Crisis Management Knowledge Hub

Our vision is to become a pioneering center for applied risk management and governance, blending cutting-edge research with the latest practical trends to deliver innovative solutions and insights.

The Knowledge Hub serves multiple goals. While advancing risk management research as a knowledge center, we also strive to bridge the gap between academic insights and practical application by providing cutting-edge knowledge to risk and crisis management professionals, managers, and practitioners across industries who seek to advance their understanding on the subject.

We aim to inspire the next generation to pursue careers in risk management by sharing knowledge and developing accessible educational resources.

Finally, we offer consulting services in risk management, business continuity, and strategic risk to support companies in navigating complex challenges.

Key points of interest, and our most recent White papers

  • Risk Management for Emerging Technologies

We look at how companies can use newest technologies, while staying in control. AI is a good example - not using it is not an option, but using it requires new approaches. We will publish a series of white papers to sheed some light on this topic.

Our first White paper, outlining the key elements of AI Governance can be found here. This is a first in a series of White paper we are developing. Future ones will deep dive into all the governance elements, one by one.

For the second White paper, we collaborated with Protiviti The Netherlands. This paper looks into the ways to evaluate and measure, how all the AI initiatives fit the purpose, mission and vision of the firm. Have a look at it here

In the third Whitepaper, written in collaboration with CPI Governance, we look at the newest research findings and practical implementation of the fundamentals of ethical AI and core oversight elements. Feel free to download here

  • Risk Management and Diversity

Are women managers more risk-avoidant than men managers? Does hiring more female board members help reduce board risk taking? We are looking at these topics from an academic perspective, and will publish our results soon. Check this space and our LinkedIn page.

  • Crisis Management and Communication

We hope it all goes well... until it doesn't. And when it doesn't, handling a crisis situation can make or break a business. We research crisis management and communication and develop solutions for companies, which would enable them to be more effective in crises.

Training

  • Ongoing course: Leading Through Uncertainty and Crisis Management

This course focuses on leadership techniques which leaders need in times of crisis.

It provides participants with some theoretical fundamentals, as well as practical tools, which will allow them to manage uncertainty and handle crises in a structured and sustainable way.

This course is part of the VU Leadership Academy. Feel free to reach out to us for further details.

  • Effective Risk Assessment facilitation: for practitioners

Learn the necessary tools and techniques to facilitate an effective risk assessment

  • Communication for risk professionals

We dive into the universe of how we connect and communicate as risk managers. Written reports, verbal updates to senior management, interviews during incident investigations, or documenting a procedure - all require different skills. We cover effective communication with senior leaders, written communication on multiple levels, and in general specifics of getting your ideas across from your risk management role.

  • Psychology of Risk

Our most recent training, Psychology of Risk, is a peer to peer learning session which we deliver with Leaders in Finance

This highly interactive peer-to-peer training helps you recognize and work with human behavior as a strategic parameter in risk management. Together with fellow risk professionals, you will exchange real dilemmas and practical approaches, guided by experts who connect scientifically validated insights with day-to-day risk practices.

Next session is scheduled for October 2026! Read more and register here
