MOVUS Podcast Series
This Dutch-language podcast series explores the MOVUS research project and examines how the digital transformation of care and housing for older persons can be shaped in ways that genuinely support people rather than hinder them. Central to the series is the interaction between online and offline organising and its implications for vulnerability, resilience, ethics and responsibility in practice.
Across four episodes, researchers and experts from the MOVUS consortium discuss different perspectives, ranging from shifting responsibilities and the use of technology to ethical and legal frameworks and broader approaches to digital innovation in care and housing.
Episode 1: Shifting Responsibilities in Digital Care
The first episode features Christine Moser, Professor of Sustainable Organising at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Within MOVUS, her research focuses on how technology changes responsibilities. Some tasks disappear, new responsibilities emerge and, in some situations, it becomes unclear who is responsible for what.
Episode 2: The Use of Technology in Care Practice
The second episode features Masi Mohammadi from Eindhoven University of Technology and HAN University of Applied Sciences, and Coosje Hammink from HAN University of Applied Sciences.
The episode examines the use of technology in care and considers why technological innovations, despite their potential, are often used only to a limited extent in everyday care practice.
Episode 3: Ethical and Legal Considerations in Home Care
The third episode features Kasper Kruithof and Brenda Frederiks, both affiliated with Amsterdam UMC. The discussion focuses on the use of care technologies in home care for older persons.
The episode addresses how technology can be implemented in ways that not only work in practice, but also respect important values such as autonomy, privacy and accessibility. Based on their research, Kruithof and Frederiks developed an ethical and legal framework that helps professionals and organisations ask the right questions when selecting and implementing technology.
Episode 4: Organisational Visions of Technology
The fourth and final episode features Elco van Burg, Professor of Organisational Theory at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and principal investigator of the MOVUS project.
Drawing on his research on organisations and innovation, Van Burg discusses how care organisations can successfully introduce and use new technologies. An important finding from the MOVUS research is that organisations differ considerably in how they view technology. These organisational visions influence how innovations are selected, implemented and used in everyday practice.
The episode considers what these differences mean for care organisations, care professionals and older persons, and how these insights can contribute to future-proof care for older persons in which technology offers genuine added value.
