Network Institute Tech Labs

The Network Institute is the hub for interdisciplinary research on the Digital Society, at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. The Tech Labs of the Network Institute consist of two physical labs: the Game Cella’ and the Cubicle lab.

Located at the NU building, the Network Institute Tech Labs, offers two highly flexible labs along with state-of-the-art technologies such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), physiological sensors, motion capture, and game consoles. Individual experiments, small group experiments, as well as virtual reality experiments can be conducted here. 

In addition to the lab spaces the Tech Labs offer full support to create a custom solution for your research project. From idea generation to custom software and hardware creation to help with technical paragraphs for articles.

Lab facilities 

  • Full support from idea generation to final experimental setup and publication.
  • Custom software solutions for any situation, eg: virtual environments for monitor or VR/AR headset use, special on-screen tasks, custom surveys, data processing, etc.
  • All software solutions can be made for desktop, networked situations, websites, etc.
  • Complete VR options from sit-down to full room-sized setups with one or multiple users and a variety of headsets.
  • Physiological sensors (ECG, BVP, EEG, Resp), haptic feedback suit, full-body motion capture
  • Game consoles
  • Video and audio recording, editing equipment, and software suites for graphics, 3D modeling, animation, game-building, etc. The hard- and software are all highly adaptive to research needs.
