Internationalisation: Research

Various grants and subsidies are available for international research. Please find the programmes most frequently supported by the VU International Office below.

Below are the most common programmes supported by the VU International Office:

  • China Scholarship Council (CSC) scholarship programme
Programme for Chinese PhD students completing their entire or partial PhD abroad (sandwich construction).
  • Indonesië: LPDP scholarship programme
An Indonesian scholarship programme for PhD students. The monthly reimbursement for PhD students is approximately €1,200.
  • South Africa: NESO scholarship
Neso South Africa offers scholarship application support for South African students for the Orange Tulip Scholarship, Orange Knowledge Programme and NRF-Nuffic Doctoral Programme.
  • Colombia: Colfuturo
A scholarship that requires PhD students to repay a percentage or the totality of the loan.

PhD students

The recruitment of international PhD students mainly takes place through faculty employees’ international networks. Outside the Netherlands, vacancies are brought to students’ attention through Academic Transfer (AT). We also use methods to promote international vacancies that are specific to an area of expertise, for example during conferences.
