Impact Lab Platform - collaboration platform for the VU community

At Impact Lab, we believe in the power of collaboration and innovation to address complex social challenges. Today we empower the VU community to co-create solutions to transform the VU campus into a meaningful learning and social hub.

Impact Lab emerged from a simple idea: we believed that there must be a better way to join our forces, share our ideas, build on each other’s knowledge, and coordinate action across the VU Amsterdam. In the spring, Impact Lab hosted three challenges centred around inclusivity, education, and sustainability. This fall, we're focusing on enhancing the campus experience. The objective of this challenge is to develop solutions that will transform our campus into a place that encourages mutual respect, embraces advancements in technology and fosters the development of meaningful relationships.

To kick off the Connected Campus challenge, we organized a one-day challenge at the Introduction week. New students shared inspiring and potentially impactful ideas. We invite everyone to contribute to reimagining the traditional campus experience. Join us on the Impact Lab platform to co-create a nurturing and dynamic environment where students and employees from all walks of life feel connected.

One-day-Challenge at the Introduction Days

During the VU Introduction Day, the Impact Lab participated in the Information Market, engaging both Bachelor's and Master's students to brainstorm ideas in the one-day challenge to enhance the campus experience. Every winner received a prize —  a self-guided tour to forge connections with Amsterdam and each other. All submitted ideas will stay on the platform and get a chance to win in the Connected Campus Challenge to get implemented.

Connected Campus Challenge Description

The challenge is to develop solutions that will help students connect on campus, fostering a more open, accessible, and inclusive environment. Let's create an inspiring environment that encourages collaboration, sparks creativity, and fosters mutual support.

Challenge objective:

The objective of this challenge is to develop ideas that will cater to the different needs and preferences of students, teachers and staff members — this may include, for instance, spaces for relaxation, mental health support, or extracurricular activities. We want to create a space that pushes the boundaries of conventional higher education settings — a space where students and employees not only come to study and work but also to live and thrive. Think boldly and envision a campus that empowers everyone, encourages mutual respect, embraces advancements in technology, fosters the development of meaningful relationships, and promotes effective stress management.

For this challenge, you can focus on the following questions to come up with an idea:

  • Well-being: What kind of facilities do students and employees need to recharge? How can we help students and employees to fight stress?
  • Cultural awareness: How can we help international students and those with diverse cultural backgrounds feel welcomed and valued?
  • Connect and build relationships: How can we help students and employees fight loneliness?
  • Connecting campus to society: How can we bridge classroom activities to society?

These questions are just for inspiration. Feel free to contemplate other issues as long as they fit the challenge objectives. It can be small things or big things — what matters is that your idea resonates with the objectives of the challenge.

The impact we want to create:

Rewards:

We will provide you with their resources to implement your idea.

The Future of Responsible Consumption Challenge

We need a significant shift in consumer attitudes and behaviors to reach local and global climate goals. In collaboration with Accenture Netherlands and Green Office VU, Impact Lab launched the Future of Responsible Consumption Challenge. Over 8 weeks, we gathered 100 ideas about sustainable consumption that focus on solutions that can be integrated on campus, in Amsterdam, and throughout the Netherlands.
