The HR & HSE director plays a central role in realising Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam's strategic ambitions. She is responsible for jointly developing and executing policies, providing advice and steering the different sub-departments.
The Management Development team comes directly under the HR & HSE director, as well as the HR management support. The employment lawyers are formally employed by Institutional Affairs, but are also functionally managed by the HR & HSE director.
The director advises the Executive Board on personnel matters, direct reports and consultations in the area of the participatory bodies. The director participates in VU-wide consultations on company policy and participates in the national Universities of the Netherlands consultations.
The HR & HSE management team consists of the director, department heads, HR advisor and controller.r.
Management Development

HR Management support
The HR management support is an indispensable link within the division’s organization. As a central point of contact, the management support sustains the daily routine within the division and contributes to the administrative, organizational and communicative processes running smoothly. The management support closely collaborates with the different departments within HR & HSE. The Health, Safety & Environment department has its own management support.
