Initiatives
Monthly student and teaching diversity meeting.
On the second Monday of each month, the department hosts a lunch meeting for students and teaching staff to discuss issues and (potential) initiatives around diversity and safety. The aim is to flag problems early on, and then come up with ways in which the department can improve diversity and inclusion in the student population. The meeting is always from 12:45-13:30, and the room details are sent around on the Canvas communities of the study programs in the department.
This meeting has been used to identify and solve problems that students encounter, but also to set up various initiatives.
Hack4Her
For three years running, the department has supported the organisation of the Hack4Her hackathon:https://hack4her.github.io/. This is a female-focused event, which serves as a complement to the more general programming competitions organised for the local students. The initiative has received the AYA award for societal impact in 2023 and is now being broadened nationally.
Other resources and initiatives
For an overview of other resources and initiatives that may be relevant to diversity, see this slidedeck. These slides are presented to the students in the first course of the first year.
