Accesibility

Everyone is welcome in 3D. Unfortunately, the 3D space is not optimally accessible. Do you experience thresholds? Do you need something? Would you like to come and have a look? Or do you have a suggestion or another question? Let us know at 3D@vu.nl

Entrance to 3D space

Main entrance via the campus square

The main entrance of 3D can be found on the campus square. View our entrance on Google Maps

Entrance via the metal staircase with handrail for the extension. Please note it is a steep staircase and can be a bit slippery in rainy weather.

Back entrance via W&N building

If you can't take the stairs: You can enter 3D through the W&N building.

  • You reach the main entrance of the W&N building via the red stairs with handrail or the ramp. The entrance is a sliding door with a sensor that opens automatically. This entrance is open until 10 pm.
  • The 3D room is located on the ground floor. As soon as you enter the reception, turn left through the double swing doors. These are the only doors you will come across.
  • Are the double swing doors difficult for you to open? At the reception opposite the stairs there is a button that allows you to open the doors automatically.
  • Go straight ahead until you reach the IT Helpdesk. For the IT Helpdesk, go to the left past the seats of "Tims's corner" and go straight to the end of the corridor. If you turn left you will walk after a few meters against the entrance of the 3D space. Along the route you will find signs along the walls that show you the way to the 3D space.
  • Can't figure it out or do you need help? The security and host of the WN building know where the 3D room is located and can walk with you if necessary.

Accessibility and what to expect from the space

  • Inside there is no threshold in the door or in other places.
  • The nearest toilet group does not have adapted toilets.
  • Accessibility of the room may be restricted for certain assistive devices.

Auditory

  • The acoustics are not ideal. We try to do something with this where possible. There is no carpet in the room. There are, however, fabric furniture, plants, larger objects and rugs in the room.
  • There is no induction loop present.

Presence of sensory influences or stimuli

  • The room has normal light.
  • The space is large but resembles a living room.
  • There is decoration on the ceiling
  • There are some windows. It is possible to sit with your back to the windows.
  • At busy times noise comes in from outside. For example, loading and unloading at the loading bay next to the building.
  • Depending on the number of people inside, this can be experienced as busy.
  • A television or piano is used for some activities.
  • The kitchen is located on the side but is not closed off from the living room.
  • The inner entrance of 3D is located in a quieter part of the building. In the old WN restaurant near 3D or in Tims corner you can often sit quieter.

3D is the living room of Vrije Universiteit

3D is the living room of Vrije Universiteit

3D is the debate, dialogue and diversity stage and the social heart of Vrije Universiteit.
At 3D we believe that the good life at VU is accompanied by deep conversation, debate or dialogue, but just as much with community and set within in a cozy space creating a safe/brave space on our campus.
