  • Past Event - Two Year’s Later: Ukraine’s Security Dilemma by Amit Gupta

What is the future for Ukraine? On the second anniversary of the Ukraine war we need to ask four questions about the future of Ukraine and peace in Europe. First, how strong is the commitment of the US and the EU to supporting Kyiv’s war effort?  Secondly, what kind of peace settlement can realistically emerge? Thirdly, what are the demographic consequences of the war for Ukraine?  And lastly, what type of assistance will Ukraine require to rebuild?  Examining these issues will help refine US and EU policy towards Ukraine.

AMIT GUPTA was on the Faculty of the Department of International Security at the U.S. Air Force Air War College, Maxwell AFB and is now a Senior Advisor to the Forum of Federations, Ottawa, Canada. His areas of research include International Security, Globalization, Federalism and Security Policy, Diaspora Politics, and Popular Culture and Politics. He has held visiting fellowships at the Observer Research Foundation (India), Strategic Studies Institute, United States Army War College (US), and the Cooperative Monitoring Center, Sandia National Laboratories (US). Professor Gupta is author, co-author or editor of the following books, Building an Arsenal: The Evolution of Regional Power Force Structures (Praeger), India’s Nuclear Security (Lynne Rienner), The Indian Ocean and the Western Pacific: Maritime Challenges, Opportunities, and Policies (Routledge-forthcoming), Global Security Watch—India (Praeger), Strategic Stability in Asia, (Ashgate), and Air Forces: Next Generation (Ashgate).

In the realm of popular culture, he has written in academic journals and magazines on Doctor Who, The Defenders, Star Trek, international cricket, and the globalization of Sports.

  • Past event: André Krouwel on the election results

As we all know, on the 22nd of November, there will be parliamentary elections in the Netherlands. I am sure that those who were there remember the wonderful presentation André Krouwel gave following the results of the last election of this kind, on the department day in Hotel Casa in 2021.

This year, André and Bram are giving a first year course to both B&O and political science students, with a lecture planned the day after the elections. André will dedicate this lecture to interpreting the election results and sketching the possible avenues for a coalition, just like in 2021. You are most welcome to join us and discuss the election results together with us and our students.

    Thursday November 23, 15:30-17:30 room HG-KC07
