Language & Communication

The Language & Communication research group studies language use in media and organizational settings.

The Language and Communication chair group at VU Amsterdam focuses on research into the role of language in communication and is responsible for a large part of the teaching in the Communication and Information Studies program. We research and teach communication on societal themes, such as health, climate, gender, nutrition and the legal system, through conversation and discourse analysis as well as other forms of text analysis. In particular, attention is paid to the use and production of facts and evidence in our society, and linguistic practices that can contribute to reliable government and science. Social media plays a crucial role in this.
