Language, Literature, and Communication

Language, Literature and Communication

The Department of Language, Literature and Communication (LLC) at VU Amsterdam Faculty of Humanities conducts research in the fields of language, cognition, (journalistic) communication, (digital) information and literature.

The department attaches importance to the social value of its research results. This means that new knowledge and insights are translated into practical applications in education, healthcare, business and IT. LLC also takes part in the Dutch National Research Agenda, because it shares the conviction that listening to social partners is a great source of future research.

The Department of Language, Literature and Communication provides teaching in broad, disciplinary bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes.

Social engagement

The endowed professors in the department are affiliated to research institutes and social organizations, such as the Dutch Reading Foundation. This strengthens the relation between university and society at large. The endowed chairs are in the areas of hearing disorders and reading and reading promotion.
