On the hunt for books in the library stack rooms with the USR

Books are brought back all over the campus, in little free libraries, in themed libraries and in various works of art. Thus, the book is not only representative of knowledge, but also brings with it an atmosphere that many students are looking for. Students in the student dock got excited about the prospect of more books on campus too. To meet their needs, the University Library organised a book safari together with the student council, in which students went into the stack rooms to select books.

Inspired by the student council
The StudentenD0k is the meeting spot for student associations. In the common room, you'll often encounter long discussions about various topics, students can find study spots and there's room for board meetings. This space, which shows the diversity on campus, could use some inspiring books to accompany it. Hence, members of the student council went on safari through the stack rooms of the library. They selected books that were vital in the central meeting space of the StudentD0k.

From esotericism to Kafka
The selection of books contained both English and Dutch literature. The longer the students spent in the stack rooms, the more specific their requests became. Books in categories, such as media, esotericism, Kafka and politics were added. After more than an hour and a half, students were still not completely finished. They kept getting more excited and the pile of books grew steadily. After an availability check, the books will be placed on the bookshelves in the StudentD0k. The collection can be found here in the new academic year.

Project Re:Book
The University Library's book warehouses can be found throughout the B-Tower of the main building. Due to rapid digitisation, many books have disappeared from campus. In project Re:book, these books are given a place back on campus in creative ways. Curious? Read more about project Re:Book.
