The Citizen Science Hub Amsterdam brings together citizens, researchers, civil society organizations, and policymakers to jointly investigate and address urban issues. We connect existing initiatives, knowledge, and networks, and create space for new forms of collaboration and knowledge development.
Why this hub?
Amsterdam faces complex issues regarding health, sustainability, social inclusion, and technology. The knowledge needed to understand and address these issues is found not only within universities, but also in neighborhoods, communities, and the daily experiences of Amsterdammers.
The hub brings together these different forms of knowledge and creates space for polyphony, equality, and change . We believe it is important that everyone can contribute to knowledge and that scientific knowledge and experiential knowledge complement each other. In this way, we aim to make research more relevant and inclusive, while simultaneously contributing to societal and urban transformation.
What is citizen science? - Research with the city, not just about the city
In citizen science, residents and researchers collaborate on scientific research. For example, citizens can propose research questions, collect and analyze data, share knowledge based on their own experiences, or contribute thoughts on what research means for their environment. Citizen science can take various forms: from jointly collecting data to co-creating research questions and knowledge.
