Adam Schoska, Automotive Retail Consultant Panoff Consulting GmbH

MBA in International Business, Class of 2023
Thinking about his career goals, Adam was looking for a well-rounded and integrative MBA programme that would allow him to learn about a range of topics, to understand and be able to work with various functions in his firm. The MBA in International Business programme at VU Amsterdam facilitated his growth, especially by enabling him to learn with like-minded people with similar dreams and career goals. The combination of the holistic curriculum and his classmates genuinely helped Adam advance his career.

Be part of a holistic approach

“Looking at the MBA programme, I especially liked the holistic approach of business. From a company perspective, you touch on every single aspect: AI, finance, project management, and more. This combination really changed my perspective. When I look at where I started compared to where I am today, they are worlds apart. Even though I am still working on similar topics, how I approach situations has truly changed because I have so much more knowledge on a wide range of topics in business. For example, even though I don’t focus on finance in my job, I now better understand the financial decisions within my firm and my colleagues who make them. And maybe later in my career, when I am in a position where I need to work closely with people from finance, I will have a deeper understanding of why financial decisions are more complicated than we think, and how I can better communicate with my colleagues about financial topics.

In this MBA programme, I also learned from the different points of view and experiences of my classmates, who came from diverse backgrounds and had a range of expertise in various industries. For example, I was pleasantly surprised to see how some of my classmates who work in Human Resources had very different contributions to the classroom discussion than I did. The diversity in our knowledge, skills and experiences also enriched our brainstorming sessions, which was very fascinating. These are some examples of how my VU MBA journey provided me with a broad and holistic view of business.

Step out of your comfort zone

Of course, following an MBA can be demanding in terms of time management. However, once you get into the new routine, you learn how to cope with it, and managing your time gets a lot easier. Besides, learning how to manage your time effectively and efficiently is a very valuable skill, which will benefit you in both your professional and personal lives. Once you step out of your comfort zone – and get used to being out of it – everything becomes easier.

Discover the programme

Starting to think about whether you would like to do an MBA is already the first step. All you need is courage and determination to start. There is no reason to hesitate or be afraid because everything is manageable. And when you decide to take a plunge, then the rest will naturally fall into place. The effort is definitely worth it and will only bring you happiness.”
