Xander Koolman is full professor Health Economics and chairs the Health Economics section at the department of Ethics, Governance and Society, School of Business and Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He holds a PhD in Health Economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam (2006).
Xander Koolman is a health economist whose research focuses on improving the accessibility, equity, and efficiency of healthcare systems. He combines institutional economics with advanced quantitative methods, including health econometrics and biostatistics, to analyse how healthcare is organised and how policies influence costs, quality, and patient outcomes.
His work has a strong societal impact: by examining inequalities in access to care and evaluating healthcare reforms, he provides evidence that supports policymakers in designing more affordable, effective, and patient-centred healthcare systems.
