My research concerns extreme weather and climate conditions. I investigate both their physical understanding and their wider impact on planet and society. My current projects focus on hot and humid climates, societal impacts and responses.
I am finishing a PhD at the Institute for Environmental Sciences (IVM) here at VU. I hold a degree in aerospace engineering, which I complemented with studies in atmospheric and climate physics, in Stuttgart (Germany), Munich (Germany), Paris (France), and Oxford (UK).
Beyond this, I have researched on urban climate mitigation and adaptation strategies at the Technische Universität Berlin and the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC), now part of the Potsdam Institue for Climate Impact Research (PIK). I also continuously work with the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Austria, where I am also an alumnus of the Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP).
I like bridging disciplines and sectors and have wide interest beyond my core research. I am also continuously working with different international institutions, including the World Bank, the Red Cross, and United Nations organizations.
