Sjoukje van Deuren is Assistant Professor of Criminology at the Faculty of Law and Postdoctoral Research at the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement (NSCR). She obtained her PhD in Criminology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2023, with a mixed-methods study on Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs.
Sjoukje van Deuren conducts research into the intersection of youth crime and serious and organized crime, with a specific focus on the role of social media platforms. She is currently involved in the NWA-funded project Explaining, Preventing and Intervening in Organized Crime (EPIC), which examines how young people become involved in serious and organized crime and what works to prevent or reduce that involvement. She also contributes to an EUDA-funded European study on the online recruitment of young people into serious drug-related offenses. She recently completed a large Dutch research project on the role of social media in young people's involvement in serious and organized drug and violent crime.
