Prof. Simon Cornielje (1983) is an endowed professor of indirect tax law at VU Amsterdam (wisselleerstoel indirect tax - see www.indirecttax.nl). He is also an indirect tax advisor at PwC in Amsterdam, the Netherlands with over 15 years of experience.
Simon obtained his Law Degree at Maastricht University, the Netherlands in 2007. In 2016, he obtained his doctorate on his thesis ‘Mergers and acquisitions in European VAT’ at Tilburg University.
Simon is a regular speaker at seminars and conferences on Euopean VAT and is an author and co-author of numerous publications on EU VAT law. He is one of the authors of the handbook Fundamentals of EU VAT Law and is author and editor for the Cursus Belastingrecht Omzetbelasting and Europees Belastingrecht and a contributor to several legal
periodicals. In 2019, Simon was awarded the Stevens-award (‘Stevensprijs’) for excellence in academic writing on tax law.
